Don’t be a marketing victim: resist and save money for your future
Don’t be a marketing victim: save money for your future instead
When I began my first career in Market Research and studied for my Chartered Institute of Marketing Diploma, the way we were taught about the art of marketing was to create a need and then sell people products that fulfil that need. That was the general description and people didn’t question that definition, or even comment on it. That was how it was.
But, thinking about that definition now, with my financial wellbeing hat on, it feels pretty outrageous to me.
What marketers do is effectively look for new ways for you to spend your hard-earned money, conjuring “needs” out of thin air. Then, once you have fallen for their trap, they then haul you in with their newly-created product that will meet your new need perfectly!
So, in other words, one day you were blissfully unaware you even needed their product. Then you were “educated” that this product is something you had to have, in such a convincing way, that you took your purse out and bought it, spending real money. Hard-earned money.
My job as a financial wellbeing coach is to open your eyes to what is happening around you, so that I can empower you to use their own judgement as to whether there is a true need or not. It frustrates me that women are manipulated each and every day into buying things they don’t really need, using such compelling tried-and-tested strategies that it all is so difficult to resist.
When this happens, women get further and further away from their financial goals and make their financial future look more and more shaky.
Oftentimes, women need a supportive voice to encourage them that they are strong enough to close their eyes to this bombardment. That THEY are the ones to decide what they need. What they want. What they will listen to. What they will ignore.
I am on your side, helping you to build your wealth pot.
The marketers want your wealth pot for themselves.
When you get to the end of your working life, what would you like to say? That you have built wealth that will be generational. Or, that you would have done, if it weren’t for you being tempted by all the latest products that kept being released all the time?
Don’t be a victim. Empower yourself. Set yourself a goal and reach that goal.
With a firm financial foundational underpinning and the ability and strength to save money, you will be able to accomplish your dreams faster than you thought possible.
