3 WAYS TO EAT MORE PLANTS

Transcript:

Hey, how are you today? I hope all is well in your world. I’m Lawrence Mitchell, I’m CEO of Raw Energy, and today I want to answer a question I get asked a lot, and that’s how do you add more plants to your diet?

Many of the people I see as a health coach know that a diet rich in fruits and vegetables is going to be good for health, and yet knowing and doing are two different things, and particularly if you’re trying to feed a family. So what can you do? And here are three things that could really help. Certainly helped me and helped my family, helps a lot of the people that I work with.

The first thing you can do is include a smoothie into your daily diet.

Now, smoothies have got a bit of a bad press recently because they tend to be associated with high sugar, and sugar, as we know, is not flavour of the month at the moment. Well, not all smoothies are equal and a smoothie that’s packed full of vegetables, particularly green vegetables, makes a huge difference to your daily nutrition.

It’s a bit like having a salad but in a smoothie, and you can drink it and consume it in a much more efficient way. So I have a whole range of different recipes. It’s got to taste great for people to be able to drink it, but really experiment. This is one way to quickly get a huge amount of great nutrition into your diet. That’s one thing.

The second thing you can do is add some mock meats, mock fish into your diet. There’s a massive amount of innovation in this area. Now, I’m not saying that these foods are something that you should eat all the time, but it’s a great product, a great thing to do as a transition. The innovation in this area has got so great. The taste and the texture is becoming so authentic that many people will eat a mock meat and not actually realize it’s mock! Now, this isn’t for everyone, but it’s great for people who want to transition and want to add more plants into their diet.

Now, the third thing you can do is turn it into a game. When I stopped eating meat, quite a long time ago now, I played a little game with myself and tried a different vegetable every single day, and it opened my mind to how many different plants there were out there. So many different colours, so many different textures, so many different things you can do. So turn it into fun. Make it enjoyable, don’t do “the do’s and don’ts” and everyone will start to eat more healthily, without even knowing it.

Have a great day and I’ll see you next time!
