“Resentment is like drinking poison and hoping it will kill your enemy” Nelson Mandela
A quote as simple as this needs from a notable figure such as Nelson Mandela requires some thought, don’t you agree? Mr Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years – yet went on to be the President of South Africa. Do you think that he could have done that hanging onto the resentment towards his captors?
Most of us have at some time experienced resentment- but what are the consequences? So, take a moment now to consider if you are harbouring any negative thoughts or feelings towards others, or a situation, and what that could be doing to your wellbeing. We have no power over other’s behaviours, beliefs or actions – and your thoughts could well be that poisoned drink which has no effect on anyone but you.
Take a moment to imagine what you would feel like if you simply let it go. If that’s too much – how about being more relaxed about the situation. Forgive and forget, that’s the motto.
